Net blotch fungicide resistance profiling enriches knowledge base
Issue 159, July-August 2022 - 19 Jun 2022Field profiling research has shown resistance and reduced sensitivity in net blotch to demethylation inhibitor fungicides is widespread across the low-medium rainfall zone, whilst for succinate dehydrogenase inhibitors it appears to be regionally isolated. Initial feedback to Curtin University’s Centre for Crop and Disease Management, whose researchers undertook the work, has indicated that growers are implementing changes in field management, including crop rotations and improved stubble reduction in response to this information.

Issue 159, July-August 2022 - 17 Jun 2022A joint investigation by the Australian Export Grains Innovation Centre, GRDC and the South Australian Grains Industry Trust is consulting with companies active in the container trade to identify supply chain issues and potential solutions.The project leveraged AEGIC’s experience in analysing export supply chains in Australian and export grain competitor nations, with supply chain experts on the east coast and South Australia involved to ensure regional differences were understood.

Researchers drill into irrigation profit drivers
Issue 159, July-August 2022 - 16 Jun 2022A GRDC-invested project, ‘Optimising farm-scale returns from irrigated grains: maximising dollar return per megalitre of water’, led by the University of Tasmania, is being conducted with irrigation growers across Australia. It is helping growers disentangle profit drivers for irrigated crops using a framework that examines the effects of markets, irrigation water requirements, crop type, climate, location and farming system on risk and return.
