For Tasmanian grain growers, Campbell Town has been the place to be in July each year to learn of the latest outcomes from grains research and development which offer the potential for positive impact on-farm.

This year, in a forced break from tradition, the annual GRDC Grains Research Update for Tasmania has moved from the usual venue in Campbell Town to the homes and offices of growers and advisers.

The GRDC will beam this year's Update on to screens across the state, ensuring growers are provided with the expert advice and research insights they have come to rely on to guide them through the remainder of the current cropping season and beyond.

What's on offer

GRDC Grower Relations Manager - South, Randall Wilksch, says while the online Update format is a departure from the norm, the latest research findings, advice and recommendations for informing growers' tactical decision-making for improved profitability remain firmly on the agenda.

"The Update will be delivered on Wednesday, July 1 and we're encouraging growers and advisers to tune in for a brief - but dynamic - program from 8-9.30am," Mr Wilksch says.

"Without leaving the warmth of their home or office, participants can hear from and interact with a number of experts about a range of topics relevant to Tasmanian growers."

Live question and answer sessions will feature:

• Nick Poole, FAR Australia - Tasmanians are on the frontline of fungicide resistance - what options are available to 'slow the train'?
• Paul Lomax, Agrichem - What impacts the supply of agricultural input products?
• Meixue Zhou, Tasmanian Institute of Agriculture - Crops that perform well in waterlogged conditions, will that become a reality?
• Chris Preston, University of Adelaide - How best to tackle herbicide resistance with new and old chemistries in Tasmanian farming systems.

Tasmanians Terry Horan, of Nutrien Ag Solutions, and Michael Chilvers, a GRDC Southern Region Panel member and grower, will be involved to provide additional local input into the discussions.
